EDUCATION ASSOCIATE, ALASKA JUNIOR THEATER – FULL-TIME, EXEMPT POSITION

DESCRIPTION:  Alaska Junior Theater is a presenter of professional theater, music and dance for young audiences. Each season, AJT presents five different shows in the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, each for a week that typically includes 10 bussed-in school performances and one public performance. The Education Associate is responsible for conducting outreach to teachers in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley, scheduling teachers and transportation for the shows, processing season subscriptions, managing cash and credit card payments, and maintaining databases. Other general duties include providing clerical support, assisting with donor support and overseeing office management.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Positive, friendly, self-motivated self-starter with excellent people skills. Must enjoy working with people but also be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Familiarity with Apple Computers. Strong knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office skills required, knowledge of Adobe Suite, FileMaker Pro, social media, Kindful Database, or other database program a plus), excellent phone/people skills, ability to multi-task, strong organizational skills, knowledge of bookkeeping/accounts receivable, ability to work well under pressure. Graphic design skills, knowledge of schools/K-12 education and/or an interest in the arts is helpful.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary $40-44K – DOE, contribution to insurance, holidays, vacation, free parking, creative work environment.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

TEACHER OUTREACH – Prepare teacher registration packets and flyers on upcoming shows; work with Anchorage School District and Mat-Su Borough School District to distribute materials; schedule classes/busses for performances; maintain database of teachers; communicate with teachers via phone and email; create study guides; create seating charts; check-in teachers at shows.

PERFORMANCE LOGISTICS—Schedule busses through Reliant Transportation and confirm with teachers; coordinate with Municipality Dept. of Transportation to ensure streets are closed for week; maintain current volunteer list and create name tags, maintain Subscription information, attend public performance as staff representative.

BOOKKEEPING—Process Visa/MasterCard payments; handle accounts receivable; keep track of payments from teachers & other sources, reconcile with computer records; make bank deposits.

DONOR SUPPORT—Maintain donor database, issue donor updates, prepare thank-you letters and donor receipts.

CLERICAL SUPPORT—Answer phones, prepare board packets and mailings, maintain office supplies and postage, maintain AJT archives, provide clerical support.

ANNUAL BENEFIT – Maintain Benefit Attendance Database and track donated auction items.

VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT – Maintain and care for AJT’s volunteer force.
