Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find the Study Guide?
Study Guides are provided at least one month prior to each show and are available on each artist page and in our Downloads section of this website.
Do your performances help meet Alaska standards?
Yes. To help you with lesson planning, a group of teachers outlined direct connections between our performances and the Alaska Content Standards.
Where can I find the performance evaluations?
Teacher evaluations are available via an online survey immediately after your attendance at a performance. An email will be sent to you with a link to the survey. Your input is essential in helping us offer programming that meets your needs in the classroom. We also provide student evaluation forms as you check in for each performance you attend. This is a way for you to give your students an opportunity to tell Alaska Junior Theater about the show from their perspective. Completed student evaluation forms can be faxed to 272-3035 or mailed to Alaska Junior Theater, 430 W 7th Ave, Suite 30, Anchorage, AK 99501.
Why should I pay a deposit?
A $40 non-refundable deposit, which is applied toward your final payment, demonstrates your commitment to attending the show for which you are registered. With each $40 deposit, you will receive one free ticket. A deposit also ensures priority placement in your reservation status if there happens to be a waiting list.
What happens if I don't pay a deposit?
Most of our shows fill up with registrations from teachers who pay a deposit. Remaining space will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If the performance is full, you will be put on a waiting list and contacted if there is an opening.
Can I register after the deadline?
Yes! Most of our performances are filled by registrations received by the deadline. However, you may register during the entire season or as long as there is space available. If the performance you request is full, you will be put on a waiting list and contacted when/if there is an opening.
What if I need to cancel?
You may cancel a scheduled performance if we are notified by the payment deadline, at least three weeks in advance of the performance date. Otherwise teachers are financially responsible for the seats they have reserved. Deposits are non-refundable regardless of time of cancellation.
What if classes or a performance is canceled?
If schools are closed by the Anchorage School District or Mat-Su School District for any reason, NO refunds will be given. If a teacher or school chooses to cancel a performance after payment, NO refunds will be given. In the extreme case that Alaska Junior Theater postpones or cancels a performance, all fees may be refunded. Every attempt to place the students into another show that season will be made first.
When do I need to pay?
Full payment is required three weeks prior to the first performance of each show in Anchorage. The payment deadline will be included on your Confirmation/Invoice form. If you have not paid by the deadline, you will be emailed and called as a courtesy reminder. Teachers will be financially responsible for the seats they have reserved after the payment deadline.
Can I change my attendance numbers?
All changes in attendance numbers or cancellations must be given no later than three weeks prior to the show’s opening. You may make changes to your reservation at any time prior to the deadline, but we must have accurate numbers with your payment by the payment deadline. No refunds will be given for any changes made after this date except for school closures or show cancellations.
What if there are absences on the day of the performance?
Just like any other event for which you have purchased tickets, we hold the seats for you and cannot sell them to anyone else. As such, we also cannot give refunds for students/adults absent on the day of the performance. If there are absences in your class, feel free to fill those seats with extra parent chaperones, your principal, etc., as long as you do not exceed the number of seats for which you have a reservation.
Are you providing transportation for my class?
We provide bus transportation to and from the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts for school groups that fulfill our busing requirements within ASD boundaries, except for those schools within walking distance to the Center. Schools within walking distance include Chugach Optional, Denali Elementary, Inlet View Elementary and Central Middle School of Science. In cases of extreme weather, Alaska Junior Theater may be able to provide bus transportation to schools within walking distance. View our Severe Weather Policy here. If you are the only teacher scheduled for a performance from your school, we may still be able to offer you bus transportation by pairing you with a class from a nearby school. We do our best to schedule individual classes with other classes at nearby schools in order to share bus transportation. However, busing is not a guarantee. Bus schedules are emailed to your school the week before the performance. If you are unsure about your bus transportation, please call Alaska Junior Theater.
What time is the bus picking up my class?
Bus Confirmations with pickup times are emailed to your school the week before the performance. For planning purposes, please estimate that buses will begin boarding at your school 45 minutes prior to show start times. If you are unsure about your bus transportation, please call us at 272-7546
Can homeschool parents register for school show performances?
Of course, home school families are welcome at our school-show performances! However, we ask that you please follow all the guidelines established for teachers. Please register in advance via a completed registration form, and pay by the payment deadline.
